2013 So Far ...

Its been just 2 weeks  since term 1 started and our class, room12, has already started our art for our deskmats and our team 12 signatures to show we are part of team 12. We have had lots of class discussions to show the year 5's  how our class works. We are also setting up some of our books for the year. One of my most favourite activities so far was called " two true one false". This is my one,

Making Softies

For room12 end of year craft we made softies. Softies are little toys that can be shaped as owls and other toys. In our case we made owls. First we had to organize blankets and curtain material,bean bag material and anything we could find to make softies. Then we could practice the running stitch which is a stitch that goes in and out of the fabric.  Also we learnt the whip stitch to sew up the bottom when we had finished stuffing our softies. After we finished our practice we planed our owls in our art books and choose the materiel or fabric that where needed.We gathered all the fabrics for the eyes, tails, feet. If we wanted to we could even make capes and hats. Once we finished putting our detail on we turned our fabric in so we could see the wrong side and started to do the running stitch all around the our owls. When we had finished we put in in the right way again, stuffed them and whip stitched them together. We had to make sure none of the stuffing came out. I only lightly stuffed my owl or else it would be a hard owl not a soft owl.

Swimsafe

Last week room12 went to swimsafe at waterworld. For most of the week my group were doing lengths but on the last day we went in the dive pool to practice survival skills.

High Jump

Last week in room12 we were practicing high jump for our school athletics. Our school energiser Dianne helped us get our jump right. We had to swing our arms up high so we were able to get over the bar without knocking it onto the mat. I thought I  was pretty good at it but there was still room for improvement to make my jump even better.

Juggling

In room 12 we are learning to juggle. We all have one ball each and then we pair up with a buddy. At first we had to make a figure "A" shape and not worry about catching them. Then we made our figure "A" shape again and try catch them without passing one ball over to the other hand. I found it hard at the start but when I got the hang of it I found it a lot easier to catch and throw.

My Spelling Wordle

In my spelling group, the blends, we were learning about the long a spelling pattern. Mrs Parkinson gave us a grid to write our words into the correct column. The patterns where magic "e", ai, ei, ea, ay, ey, eigh, aigh and an "a" all by its self. When I finished the grid I typed my words onto wordle and chose my layout, colour and font.

Paired Writing

In room 12 we have being doing a writing program called Paired writing for six weeks. Paired writing is when you are put  in buddys selected by your teacher. One buddy is a trained tutor and the other is a tutee. The tutee does all the writing and the tutor is there for support and any questions that your buddy has to ask. My buddy is Corrina. I am the tutor and Corrina is the tutee

Three things I have learnt or improved on is :

I have learnt to let others have a go instead of me doing it for them.

I have learnt to understand others and help them so they can understand there learning.

I have improved on proof reading because now I can pick up mistakes easily or quickly.

Two comments on my buddy :

I like seeing Corrina improve every time.
She always comes to paired writing organized and has lots of different story ideas.

One thing I found challenging :

Trying not to give to much information to my buddy.
