Jack had 24 apples. He gave 1/6 of these to mike. How many did mike get?
Ariana's thinking....

This was Vardon schools crazy hair day. Pretty crazy!

Spotlight on the Arts

On the second Wednesday of November Vardon School held a spotlight on the arts evening. I was part of the Jump Jam and the choir group. It was really fun! First I had choir. Then I had to race back to the jump jam changing room and Emerson, Ella and I go dressed in no time. The night was really fun and I wish that Vardon could hold a spotlight on the arts again!

Teaches

My favourite teacher is Mrs Natusch because she helps us learn in fun ways and I learn so much! Mrs Natusch always makes things challenging so we ether find new ways to solve problems or just trying to make us use our brain. We also have a student teacher called Miss Joyes. Her job is if Mrs N is not able to teach us she'll just keep going until Mrs N is free But the best thing about having Miss Joyes around is because shes going to be here until the end of term which is seven and a half weeks! YAY! I can't wait for her to teach me something new.

Healthy Drinks

Occasionally drinks Sometimes drinks

Every day drinks

On the 3.8.11 a lady called Millie from project energize came into our class and talked to us about what healthy drinks to drink and what unhealthy drinks to have sometimes or occasional. Water is the best drink to drink to stay healthy. E2 has the most sugar by 20 ts of sugar. I was shocked that V had less ts of suagr than coke did. That was amazing!

Perseverance

This term our big idea is perseverance. Perseverance means if you've had an injury you persevere and keep gonging and doing what you can even if it gets hard. I have persevered with a really sore leg because I injured it at gymnastics on the vault and I had to keep going even though it was hurting and I couldn't do it well.

Term 2 Reflection

Term 2 was so much fun.

The activity I enjoyed the most was learning about fractions and building bridges and learning lots about the Waikato River. Learning about winter sports was really fun as well.

The most challenging part about my learning was making bridges and putting them together and trying to make them strong with only newspaper, string, cardbord and cello tape.

Next term I want to learn more about reading , writing and science.

Basketball

In basketball for winter sports I learnt to dribble. Dribbling is hard because just say you are dribbling the ball and you stop and keep going after you have stopped that is called double dribbling. If you double dribble you have to pass the ball. I learnt to travel and dribble at the same time. Basketball is an OK sport but I'd rather stick to netball.

Art Club

In art club we are tiling for the gardens out the front of room 2.

The easiest thing was sketching the design on the brick.

The hardest part was gluing the tiles on the brick with grout.

River walk on PhotoPeach

Soccer

Soccer Reflection.

For winter sports we learnt how to play soccer.

I learnt that you have to spread out to get the ball instead of crowding the ball. I also learnt to do little kicks so you can keep control of the ball.

What I found hard was to trying not give the ball to the other team and dribbling.I also need to work on not kicking the ball out!

I liked playing truck and trailer and playing a soccer game.

Soccer is a cool sport but I'd rather stick to netball.

Truss Bridge

In room7 we are learning about bridges. Katherine and I did a Truss bridge. We made our bridge out of string, cardboard, newspaper and lots and lots of cello-tape. To make our bridge we firstly made the frame and the hardest part was to get it even. After that we put two bits of newspaper(one on the top one on the bottom) across to connects one frame to another. Next we put the string on to make a triangle shape. The last part we did was putting the cardboard on for the road.

Did you know that there are five different types of a Truss bridge. Here they are.

  • Warren Truss Bow String

  • King Post Crver Chord

  • Queen post

Most Truss Bridges have triangles to support the beams and icreas the rigidity.

The Truss bridge got its name from the peson called Warren Truss. He designed the first ever Truss bridge.

132-7=125 (132-2=130-5=125)
271-8=263 (271-1=270-7=263)
393-6=387 (393-3=390-3=387)

I solved these problems by going back to a tidy ten. Then I took away the one that I had left.
